Hindman Completes 20th Gallon Donation
Mr. Frank Hindman II of Rome, Georgia has completed his 20th gallon blood donation at Blood Assurance, potentially saving almost 500 lives. Mr. Hindman is O positive and has been donating since 1983. The t shirts Mr. Hindman receives for donating have been made into quilts that have been displayed at Blood Assurance donor centers. Thank you to Mr. Hindman for his commitment to saving lives and community service.
Blood Assurance in Need of O Negative and O Positive Blood Types
Blood Assurance is experiencing shortages of both O Positive and O Negative blood types. Currently, there is a two day supply of inventory. O negative is the universal blood type and can be used by anyone in a trauma situation. O positive is the most common blood type and has a high usage.
Over 540 blood donors are needed every day in order to adequately supply all the hospitals served by Blood Assurance. Your one donation can save three lives. To be eligible to donate blood, you must be at least 17 years old (16 years old with parental consent), weigh 110 pounds or more and be in good health. The process usually takes about 30 minutes and includes a complimentary snack. Donors are asked to drink plenty of fluids – avoiding caffeine – and eat a meal that is rich in iron prior to donating. In June visitors can register for their chance to win a gas grill. Donors can pick their choice of a yellow cup or a t shirt as a thank you for donating.

Blood Assurance Expands Volunteer Program
Blood Assurance has recently expanded their volunteer program. Volunteers are needed at donor centers, bloodmobiles, community events and at the main office in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Along with volunteering to donate blood, volunteering for Blood Assurance is another great way to give back to your community.
Volunteers at bloodmobiles will help donor recruitment team members at blood drives by encouraging members of the community to donate blood. In donor centers, volunteers will serve as ambassadors to donors – greeting them, making sure they get their snack, goodie and that they know about the promotional item being given away that month. Volunteers at our main center help different departments with projects, such as data entry, filing, assembling and special projects. Volunteers are also needed to help at informational booths Blood Assurance has at community events such as the Chattanooga Market and Riverbend.
